Windsor Frequently Asked Questions

Why is non-correlation important to a portfolio?

We believe non-correlation is important in a portfolio because it creates a diversified portfolio that is more likely to withstand volatile market conditions. Non-correlating strategies have the potential to generate returns in various market environments. Please remember that past performance may not be indicative of future results.

What makes Windsor unique?

Windsor has been an RIA for 45 years – something very unusual in this industry – with research unique to Windsor dating back 50 years.  Our data goes back even further – beyond that of many Wall Street firms.  Most man-hours at Windsor are spent on research, not marketing.  Our Investment Research team utilizes sophisticated statistical modeling to create risk managed strategies, and Windsor’s quantitative team constantly works to improve its programs in ever changing complex markets.  Windsor also offers transparent strategies with high liquidity, in accounts held in the client’s name.

Why are capital preservation, transparency, and liquidity so important?

We believe in capital preservation, and we believe we should treat our clients the way we want to be treated.  Transparency, through separately-managed accounts, allows the client to see every trade and not wait until the end of the month or quarter to see how his/her portfolio is performing.  Liquidity means that if you want or need your money, it is there for you. Period.

Who is your custodian and where is the money held?

Windsor generally allows the client to choose his/her custodian.  Currently, Windsor uses a variety of custodians, including Trust Company of America.  Alternatively, assets can be managed directly at the mutual fund or variable annuity of your choice or you may choose another custodian that allows Windsor’s trading.

Who makes transactions?

Under the client agreement, Windsor is pre-authorized to make all trade transactions but the client remains the owner and ultimate controller of the account.

What sort of statements will I receive?

Depending on the custodian, you may receive daily or quarterly client statements, and you may have daily viewing access.

When will I be charged the fee on my account?

Windsor will charge fees on a monthly basis at the end of each quarter. Contact your advisor for more information.

Who qualifies for performance-only fees?

Qualified Investors, who must have $1,000,000 or more of assets under management with Windsor after the investment in the fund or have a net worth of $2,100,000 prior to the investment in the fund (excluding the value of their primary residence), may opt for performance-only fees, which means Windsor does not make money if the client does not make money.

Can an investor cancel a program?

Yes. The program can be cancelled at any time upon written notice to Windsor.

Does Windsor guarantee results?

No. Windsor does not guarantee results, and past performance does not imply future performance.

Can I get online access to my account?

Depending on your custodian, you will have access to your account to see current and pending transactions, holdings, performance, and other account details.  For example, at Trust Company of America, among other custodians, Investors and Advisors are both given account login information so that you will have access to your account anytime.

In what do you invest (e.g. ETFs, mutual funds, individual securities)?

Windsor invests in both open-end mutual funds and ETFs; its affiliate, MFIP, makes analogous investments in index futures.  Neither Windsor nor its affiliates invest in options.

Will I be invested in loaded funds?

No. To date, Windsor has never purchased loaded mutual funds.  Only no-load funds are purchased at Trust Company of America and Profunds.

Can I take systematic distributions from and/or make systematic contributions to the account?

You can take any type of distribution you need. Whether it’s a one-time or systematic distribution, your money is always available. You can also establish a systematic contribution to your account.

What is meant by "tactical" portfolio?

Tactical simply means planning and positioning to accomplish a purpose.  A tactical strategy is one which has the ability to move completely in or out of a position; it seeks to capitalize on identified investment opportunities.  Windsor has specialized in creating proprietary tactical models for over 40 years.

Why would I want to invest in bonds in a rising rate environment?

Windsor does not make long term investments in bonds, nor does it invest in bonds directly.  Instead, Windsor takes tactical positions in liquid, bond-index based derivatives (e.g., ETFs, US 30 year bond futures, bond index funds) to capitalize on short term opportunities in the market.  Moreover, Windsor can take a position which correlates negatively to bond prices.  This approach allows the possibility of capital growth in either rising or declining rate environments.

What if I have other questions?

Please contact Windsor if you have further questions or would like more information.
